inSTREAM by Celaton

inSTREAM™ by Celaton is a technology platform that captures and transforms the unstructured, unpredictable and hard-to-manage inbound information streams such as post, email, fax, web, mobile or other media. User defined business rules allow it to identify documents and automatically extract key data buried in them that are relevant to each process more efficiently than competing products.

Value Add
Unique to inSTREAM is its ability to dynamically and rapidly learn how to identify and extract key data from unstructured documents. This allows the need for human intervention to be significantly reduced and often eliminated from processes. Cost per transaction is reduced by an average 74%.

Importantly, the speed of processing and the fact that checks and measures can be enabled to ensure that all data being fed into line of business systems is guaranteed perfect is something that exceeds the capability of any solution presently available from EMC.

inSTREAM's workflow manages the ‘in-flight’ interaction with decision makers along the way and delivers Guaranteed Perfect Input to one or many line of business systems including SAP, Oracle, JDE etc.

Celaton inSTREAM comprises five key technologies:

Universal Media Capture (UMC)
Automated Key Data Extraction (KDE)
Interactive Process Workflow (IPW)
Data Delivery & Exchange (DDE)
ESP Document Management (ESP)

Innovation Rating: 2/3
Data capture is not new, however, Celaton has found a niche market by engaging at the CFO level regarding the cost benefits of reducing human intervention.  The significant efficiencies and cost reduction warrants a hard and detailed look by any CFO.

Our Opportunity
Celaton's strength gives rise to two areas of weakness where we can add value:
1) their systems are so good and so effective at reducing cost that the enterprise is compelled to use them in all areas of its business. This places the enterprise at risk as it finds itself more and more reliant on a small ISV. Having this service wrapped by a large SI reduces vendor risk.
2) again, their systems being so good and widely used within the organisation, the next requirement is to integrate with front and back-office systems. This integration work is a clear opportunity for an SI.

Also, the significant reduction of human intervention, and thereby cost, and its ability to work on site or in data centres has implications for BPO.
